History
SKA is a former army sports complex. It has a swimming pool, a large sports hall (for volleyball, basketball, football games), a smaller fitness hall and a gym.
The SKA Complex played a significant role in the life of the district and was an important sports center. Many people have pleasant memories of the times when the complex was in operation, they recon on the restoration of the pool.
Despite the fact that the pool has long ceased to operate, and the sports hall has been “living out its days”, the place name “SKA” has been used to this day.
Challenges
An ambitious challenge for Vinnytsia is to restore the pool to the standard which will allow for holding international competitions.
The other goal is to make the facility accessible to people with limited mobility.
The space in front of the building, part of Yanhelia street, should be turned into a high-quality public space.

Reconstruction
The reconstruction of the sports complex began in September 2018, the total area to be renovated is 5,087 m2. To begin with, the roof panels (60 pieces), which were badly damaged by environmental influence, were replaced. The most difficult and responsible task is to restore and reinforce the pool basin (pool volume: 860 m3). The new 25-meter high diving towers will be installed, the only ones in the city. In the sports hall, the old flooring will be replaced with professional sports parquet flooring (730 m2). Stands will be installed, in the pool room – with a seating capacity of 100, in the sports hall – with a seating capacity of 150. The main entrance to the building is designed to be barrier-free, and it is planned to install a high-quality elevator for visitors.
Additional Materials:
The architectural solution of the sports complex facades is aimed at achieving several practical goals by reducing excessive glazing: increasing the energy efficiency of the building and improving its operational characteristics.
The glazing of the southern facade has been reduced by 38.5%, which will significantly reduce the cost of cooling the sports hall in the warm season, at the same time solving the issue of excessive lighting of the hall with direct sunlight, which is a disadvantage for professional competitions and trainings. The glazing of the eastern facade has been reduced by 53.5%, which will significantly reduce the cost of heating the swimming pool room.
The glazing of the northern facade has been reduced by 46%, which will significantly reduce the cost of heating the premises.
To implement such solutions, additional structural reinforcement and masonry work should be done. For an additional increase in energy efficiency, high-quality glazing systems are used. All these solutions will significantly reduce the cost of maintaining the sports complex, which in the long term will result in significant savings.
“What will the residents of Vinnytsia get in the end? A 25-meter swimming pool with the only diving towers in the city, a hall for “dry” swimming, gyms, a hall for team sports with stands for the audience. The sports complex in Zamostia will become a place for training professional athletes, fitness activities of city residents and completions of various levels.” Serhii Morhunov, Mayor of Vinnytsia, instagram, 18 July 2019
